All of our sunglasses come with a polarising filter, so why is this an important factor to consider when purchasing sunglasses?
Although a polarising filter doesn’t protect our eyes from harmful UV rays, it helps to reduce the amount of glare reaching them, therefore making it more comfortable to see in very bright conditions. This will mean less squinting on super sunny days, or when looking at wet or shiny surfaces, and maybe one day your kids will thank you for helping to minimise the chance of getting wrinkles around their eyes!
It is important that the polarising filter is combined with a UV filter so that they can work together to provide the best protection for our eyes and remove any unnecessary eye strain.
Lightwaves travel in different directions - vertical light (up and down) helps us to see but horizontal light (sideways) creates glare as the rays bounce off shiny surfaces like water or snow. The polarising lenses filter out and absorb this horizontal light, and at the same time, allow the vertical light to reach our eyes which enables us to see more clearly.
You may have noticed when looking at the ocean at the beach that some sunglasses enable you to almost see into the shallow water and this is due to the polarising filter which is cutting out the reflected glare and making your vision more crisp.
Sometimes your car windscreen or phone screen may show rainbows or dark patches when you are wearing your polarised lenses. This is completely normal.
We hope your children will enjoy the benefits of polarised lenses like ours do!
